Staying competitive in challenging times

With March 2013 fast coming to an end, we are starting to get a sense as to the economic characteristics that this year appears to be bringing.  With many challenges to the cost of our workforce and other input costs, the article by KPMG on the ’2012 Global Manufacturing Outlook (GMO)’ makes for an interesting read.  This article looks at how manufacturers are moving their operations to reduce both costs and risks.  With the price of electricity, petrol and wages steadily climbing, questions are definitely being raised as to the costs of doing business in the current economic climate.

Deloitte’s article on ‘Sustainability for consumer business companies’ views the challenges at the other end of the scale, identifying how sustainability is a primary driver for strategic product and business model innovation.  In order to be competitive and survive the pressures placed on business, companies need to consider various cost cutting and client attracting techniques, so as to improve the bottom line.
