Press release: Good news about online ethics CPD for accountants and auditors
by Lourika Els - Wednesday, 23 May 2012, 09:34 AM

Accountants and Auditors can now earn their Ethics Continuous Professional Development hours online.

Ethics South Africa (EthicsSA), in association with Compass Ethics CC, has partnered with AOSIS eCPD, the leading online South African CPD provider, to offer quality online Ethics CPD activities.  The progressive e-learning strategy will ensure that accountants and auditors will be able to keep their CPD portfolios updated from their home or office − no more unnecessary travelling and time away from work or loved ones to attend courses.

EthicsSA is well-known as a leader in the field of workplace ethics. CEO Deon Rossouw is an expert on business ethics, while his colleague Willem Landman, who founded EthicsSA, with his expertise on professional ethics, will drive the creation of ethics content by EthicsSA. Working with them is Martin Prozesky, founder of Compass Ethics CC, who has a decade of experience running ethics seminars for the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

AOSIS (Pty) Ltd, established in 1999, offers online CPD services for professionals, scholarly e-publishing solutions and provides e-learning platforms to the academic and corporate sectors. The founder of AOSIS, Pierre de Villiers, has years of experience in the education industry as an academic, teacher and researcher at Stellenbosch University.

The Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) recently required the country’s registered auditors to complete 9 verified hours of ethics CPD over each three year cycle, starting in 2011, with at least 2 hours each year. This makes the new online ethics option very timely, as many Registered Auditors will find it impossible to attend contact ethics CPD sessions. Even those who have access to contact sessions will benefit from the convenience of meeting their CPD targets at their desks, as well as making significant savings of both time and money.

The modules to be offered online are designed to meet the needs of both registered auditors and accountants working in commerce, industry and in the public sector. Two one-hour modules will initially be offered, dealing with the vocabulary of ethics and with the Code of Professional Conduct recently release by both the IRBA and SAICA. A further four such modules are planned for later in the year, with six more in both of 2012 and 2013.
